What Are You Hungry For?

Genesis 25:29-34
"29 Now Jacob cooked a stew; and Esau came in from the field, and he was weary. 30 And Esau said to Jacob, "Please feed me with that same red stew, for I am weary." Therefore his name was called Edom. 31 But Jacob said, "Sell me your birthright as of this day." 32 And Esau said, "Look, I am about to die; so what is this birthright to me?" 33 Then Jacob said, "Swear to me as of this day." So he swore to him, and sold his birthright to Jacob. 34 And Jacob gave Esau bread and stew of lentils; then he ate and drank, arose, and went his way. Thus Esau despised his birthright. "

Hunger in the original means to crave, seek with eager desire. What is the Church hungry for? What are you hungry for? The world creates a hunger- you see it wherever you go on billboards, TV, social media, etc. Sex, alcohol, drugs, pleasures, etc.- are plastered in front of us at every corner. The world thinks that these things will satisfy the hunger that lies in each one of us. There is a void in the human heart that cries out to be filled.

Even some Christians eat out of the dumpsters. Instead of feeding on the Word of God they feed on television, games, social media, sports, pleasures and anything else that never fills them up and leaves them hungry and empty still.

Instead of Christians feeding on garbage, we need to feed on the Word of God and in turn create a hunger in those around us. Our lives should be a walking advertisement of how great and awesome our God is and therefore create a desire in others to also have a taste.

Matthew 5:6 tells us that those who hunger and thirst after righteousness shall be filled. Matthew 6:33 tells us to seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness and our needs will be met.

What are you hungry for? With what are you filling up that void inside of you? Are you feasting on the true manna- the presence of God, His word and will? Or are you dumpster diving- just picking out the scraps that someone else left?

John 6:35
"And Jesus said unto them, I am the bread of life: he that cometh to me shall never hunger ; and he that believeth on me shall never thirst . "
