A Still Small Voice

1 Kings 19:11 Then He said, "Go out, and stand on the mountain before the Lord." And behold, the Lord passed by, and a great and strong wind tore into the mountains and broke the rocks in pieces before the Lord, but the Lord was not in the wind; and after the wind an earthquake, but the Lord was not in the earthquake; 12 and after the earthquake a fire, but the Lord was not in the fire; and after the fire a still small voice.

This scripture is taken from the story of Elijah, after defeating the false prophets at Mount Carmel and then escaping from Jezebel. Elijah finds himself on a mountain. There was a strong wind storm, an earthquake and then a fire. But God was not in them. God was in the still small voice.

Recently we had Revival Services at the church. Much prayer and fasting, many invitations sent and word of mouth went forth.  Those who attended were stirred and revived. The Lord didn't come in a great whirlwind or flaming chariot. He didn't come booming out of the heavens to get our attention. But He came in the still small voice, the gentle whisper to our hearts. We were revived! The Presence of the Lord was so sweet and gentle, wooing us to Himself. Beseeching us to come a little closer to Him. Drawing us into His Presence. Several have mentioned how since then they have felt energized to continue on for the Lord.

Many times God speaks to us in that gentle whisper. The key is that we must be listening for it. We must take the time and make the effort to separate ourselves from the hustle and bustle of the world, pull ourselves apart for a time, calm and quiet our souls. It is then that the Lord will speak to us.

The still small voice? Are you hearing it? Are you separating yourselves from the world for a time of fellowship with Him? When you do this- He will speak in that gentle whisper-- that still small voice.
